About Eric Hovde, CEO
Mr. Hovde is a classic entrepreneur who has started and managed numerous business enterprises. His fields of expertise are in the financial services, investment management and real estate industries. Mr. Hovde is responsible for the investment strategy for the funds managed by Hovde Capital Advisors LLC, an asset management firm that focuses on investing in the financial services and real estate sectors of the public equity markets. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of H-Bancorp, a $1.3 billion private bank holding company with banking operations on both the east and the west coast. Additionally, he oversees the management of Hovde Properties, a third generation family company that purchases, develops and manages real estate with headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin.
Mr. Hovde has owned numerous community banks and thrifts throughout the country and currently serves as the Chairman of Sunwest Bancorp in Orange County, California and Bay Bancorp in Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, Mr. Hovde is a significant shareholder and board member for ePlus, Inc., a leading value-added reseller and lessor of technology products and services.
He has over twenty years of experience in financial services and real estate investing and management and has been featured on numerous occasions on financial television and in national print media publications—including CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and The Wall Street Journal. His familiarity and understanding of the interplay between the economy and the financial and real estate markets has provided him with a knowledgeable perspective enabling him to act in multiple capacities – that of an executive, an industry commentator, and a financial industry expert.
Mr. Hovde, along with his brother, Steven, created and fund the Hovde Foundation, an organization that actively supports two central missions – clinical research to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis and charitable relief for children in desperate need. Mr. Hovde established the Hovde Homes, which provide comprehensive care for street children. The Foundation has now established five homes around the world in: Huánuco, Peru; Winneba, Ghana; Kigali, Rwanda; Mombasa, Kenya; and Guatemala. Mr. Hovde has also established a homeless shelter for children and their parents complete with casework managers and job training in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin.
Mr. Hovde earned his degrees in Economics and International Relations at the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Madison, Wisconsin and is married and has two children.
